Yorktown teachers teach. The best teachers search for a “teachable” moment to impact the child. This happens occasionally for students and teachers. Yorktown's curriculum and methodology drive these moments to teachers. Yorktown teachers can have 20 hours of impact time with each student, each month instead of the fortunate few impacts with a few students currently.
Yorktown teachers can continue teaching the same students for several years. This helps the student with their progression. Student and teacher do not have to relearn each other's issues every year. Long term rewarding teacher and student relationships are expected to develop.
Teacher's contributing to curriculum is encouraged. As an example of the free market system, Yorktown will accept corrections and critiques from teachers. Subject educational boards will review these. This is part of the continuous improvement program and teachers will be paid for their contribution. Teachers may also develop replacement courses for existing courses or add new courses (either core or elective). Yorktown anticipates that a group of teachers will become experts and earn very nice livings as course authors.
