Curriculum will be delivered via Internet with pace and delivery by the student's customized plan.  For instance, professional athletes or those working a job will have slower schedule to provide more free time while keeping a minimum schedule.  Some students will have a full-time, year-round speed schedule if their goal is to enter graduate school before 20 years of age.

Each student will be tested after they are enrolled and their programs will be started at their level for each area.  The program may start at any level. The average target for the program is completing 12th grade by age 16 (sophomore in other schools) so they can complete advanced placement course work their final 2 years.  Talented students could finish high school by age 14 leaving 4 years for college study and additional electives.

Core Courses

Math including algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus.  This also includes practical math.

Sciences, all basic sciences including physics, electronics, computers, biology, ecology, genetics, geology, meteorology, nanotechnology and others.

World context including history, economics, government, social studies, geography and other topics.

Communications including English, reading, writing (general, legal and business), public speaking and presentations, persuasion, body language and music.

Life skills.  These start as simple and basic as tying shoes.  They progress to include including group dynamics, worldwide customs, cooking, fashion and clothing care, personal presentation, hygiene, interpersonal relationships and organizational behaviors.  This also includes personal career and social development like reading accounting statements, job searching and starting a business including basic fund raising.

Electives

Yorktown desires the largest catalog of electives available in pre-college education.  This will be a key advantage for students.  These are done as survey courses and in depth courses.  Survey course electives round out the student’s life experiences and give them exposure to new topics.  These include:

  • Types of engineering and architecture
  • Medicine including doctors, nurses, researchers, and hospital management
  • Specific emerging technology areas like biotech or nanotech
  • Art, politics, law and other areas
  • Sports of various types including golf
  • Agriculture, horticulture and various environmental areas
  • Film, games development, and media issues
  • Investments and investment management companies

Yorktown will add electives (as approved) after submission and course development.  A starting point is anticipated to be the Boy Scouts of American merit badge catalog of over 100 topics.

In depth courses are for those with a desire to build expertise in a topic.  These may have several levels over years.  An example would be computer programming.  There could be basic, intermediate and advanced courses in each computer programming language.
