A Changing World
The world is changing rapidly with personal computers, cell phones and advanced videogames. Facebook and Twitter did not exist ten years ago. Schools should prepare students to thrive and prosper in this ever-changing world. But the traditional educational system, public and private, is not improving or even changing.
United States K-12 students are in trouble. They are falling behind the rest of the world. The U.S. system is one of the oldest in the world and has fallen to number 28 out of 40 tested countries. The U.S. was number one just thirty years ago.
The State of Texas kids are in bigger trouble. The state of Texas ranks 42nd and 43rd on the national SAT and ACT exams and is one of only two states that refuse to accept the higher national standards in math and English. Even Plano ISD and Dallas ISD have lost their national accreditations and other Texas public and private school may have never earned the AdvancED national accreditation.
Competition to get in the best colleges is growing tougher each day from private schools and international students. Private school students are admitted to "elite" colleges at 10 times the rate of public school students.
Yorktown improves students' lives.
Yorktown Education prepares children to not only survive, but to thrive in a global environment. Graduates have the skills they need to choose what they want to do with their lives - and to be good at it.
Every student is an individual with their own talents, abilities and weaknesses. Yorktown tailors the student's education to their needs. They learn better, faster and more effectively.
Since every child is different, Yorktown customizes every student's education to fit his or her learning style, strengths and interests. Athletes or students with special interests may have a flexible schedule with less in-class time. Students with a desire to advance quickly can opt for a full-time, year-round schedule. Children learn faster, stay focused and are happy with their success.
The Yorktown mastery program is for students who want to achieve their personal best. Each course is "mastery-based" to an A-level grade of 90 percent or higher. Students complete a class when they learn the material fully. Yorktown gives each student the individual attention, time and resources necessary to achieve this goal. These students have flexible schedules and may complete up to two years of college credit, depending on time availability and effort. Yorktown does not require the 50 to 60 hours a week of class time and homework that other elite schools need to achieve similar results.
The environment at Yorktown is warm and open, with well-behaved students who treat one another with respect. Social training is an important part of their education, and graduates understand how to conduct themselves in any situation. This helps them develop strong mentor relationships with teachers and lifelong friendships with classmates.
