Traditional School Problems
IN ADDITION TO U.S. EDUCATIONAL PROBLEMS, traditional schools also have issues.
Traditional schools by definition are dependent on the traditional classroom lecture. School's architecture designed for this, existing institutions do not have a choice. So:- All students learn the same lessons, regardless of what they each need to be taught.
- All students are taught at the same time, regardless of their skills, readiness and needs.
- All students are taught the same way, regardless of their personal talents and abilities.
- Grades -both level and achievement.
- 8th graders are taught 8th grade English, math etc. regardless of their abilities.
- Traditional education runs lessons past students and then grades them based on how much the student can grab.
- All student's learn at the slowest student's pace - "No Child Left Behind" grades schools on the lowest slowest people. Not the average or better student.. AVERAGE AND BETTER STUDENTS ARE INTENTIONALLY PENALIZED AND SUFFER IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.
- Teacher presentation - not multimedia which does a better job of lecture instruction than most teachers.
- New teachers every year, you do not get to know or keep good teachers.
- No choice for teachers or students - you get what you get.
- Teachers spend time on low value added items not teaching, so the best teachers are frustrated.
- Teachers receive low pay, so the better teachers leave. Most new teacher leave the profession for better jobs elsewhere.
